Focusing on the importance of helping students in need at an especially difficult time, the Raritan Valley Community College Foundation held its annual “Giving Day” online fundraising campaign on March 19. The 24-hour effort benefitting students and the RVCC community at large netted $23,505, including more than $3,500 for the College’s Student Emergency Fund/Food Pantry/Resource Center.

The annual event was the second most successful Giving Day in the College’s history. The RVCC Foundation raised just over $25,550 during last year’s Giving Day campaign.

“Despite the extraordinary circumstances of a global pandemic, the RVCC community continued to demonstrate its support of this exceptional College,” said Mike Marion, Executive Director, RVCC Foundation. “We could not be more grateful to RVCC’s strong network of friends, students, parents, and alumni.”

Some 19 student clubs and athletic teams participated in this year’s effort, as did faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the College. The event’s highlights included the first Giving Day promotional video, “Join our Team,” created by Gabrielle Taylor of Phillipsburg (RVCC Class of 2020), one of two student representatives on the RVCC Foundation Board of Directors. In addition, the inaugural “Patrick J. Fittipaldi Impact Awards,” named for a longtime supporter of the College, rewarded the top two student organizations in Giving Day fundraising success. The awards, which are funded exclusively from the personal Giving Day donations of the RVCC Foundation Board of Directors, went to the RVCC Women’s Basketball team and RVCC Women’s Volleyball team, with each team receiving $1,000.
