Raritan Valley Community College: Awards & Recognition

Before we settle into the rhythm of the New Year, we wanted to take a quick moment to pat ourselves on the back for an awesome list of awards and recognition received by RVCC in 2017. At Raritan Valley Community College, we’re always striving for excellence in everything we do—from the quality of our education to the dedication of our faculty to the value we provide to our students and the community at large. That’s why it means so much when our efforts go noticed with top honors like these.

Ranked #1 Community College in NJ

RVCC was ranked the #1 community college in NJ by not one, but two respected websites in their annual list of best colleges. We’re thrilled to take top honors from both BestColleges.com and Niche.com!  BestColleges.com also ranked RVCC #10 in its list of Best Online Community Colleges for 2018.

Lauded for Adult Education

Washington Monthly ranked RVCC fifth in the country in the category of “Best Colleges for Adult Learners – 2 Year Colleges.” Learn more about adult learning at RVCC here.

Named to President’s Community Service Honor Roll

In recognition of our leadership role in serving the local community, RVCC was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll “with distinction” this past fall. Since the Honor Roll was launched, RVCC has been named to the list every year and first achieved the honor “with distinction” in 2006. This year, we were:

  • The only community college in the country to be recognized “with distinction” in the Education category
  • One of only two colleges in the state—and the only community college in NJ—to be recognized “with distinction” in the General Community Service category

Honored by National Diversity Publication

In September, we were honored with the 2017 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. Marking the fourth time we’ve received this award, RVCC was the only New Jersey college or university to be honored this year. In addition, Dr. Patrice Gouveia Marks, RVCC’s Dean of Liberal Arts, Accreditation Liaison Officer, was honored in February with the 2017 Giving Back Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity.

Recognized for Sustainability Efforts

For the third year in a row, RVCC has been lauded for its campus sustainability efforts by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). Recognized as a top performer in the 2017 Sustainable Campus Index, RVCC ranked seventh in the country in the “Associate Colleges” category—receiving a Silver rating for our efforts.
