Raritan Valley Community College’s Workforce Training Center is launching a new solar training bootcamp for aspiring Photovoltaic (PV) Associates. The eight-day, intensive program will be held weekdays, March 29-April 7, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Classes will be held in the Workforce Training Center at the College’s Branchburg campus.

The Solar PV Associate training bootcamp is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the rapidly growing solar energy industry. The program covers a wide range of topics including solar photovoltaic technology, electrical concepts, installation techniques, and safety procedures. The course is designed for individuals with little or no prior experience in the industry, but who have a strong interest in renewable energy and solar installation, as well as a desire to learn.

There is no cost to participate in the program, and upon completion graduates will have the opportunity to interview and network with solar technology employers and will receive a $500 stipend for their time and effort.

“The solar industry is growing rapidly, and we need to train the next generation of workers to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy that will help reduce our dependence on the use of fossil fuels,” said Jacki Belin, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Workforce Innovation, Raritan Valley Community College. "Our Solar PV Associate training bootcamp provides a wonderful opportunity for students and job seekers looking to earn an industry credential and the skills necessary to begin a career in this exciting field.”

The program is taught by experienced professionals with extensive knowledge of the industry. The instructors will provide hands-on training, which will allow students to apply the concepts they learn in a real-world setting. The curriculum is also designed to prepare students for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Associate Exam, a widely recognized certification in the solar industry. Students also will receive an OSHA 10 certification, as well as complementary training courses in conducting a rewarding job search, resume writing, and mastering the interview.

"We are collaborating with community-based organizations to identify candidates and are eager to work with employers who are looking for entry-level technicians," added Belin. "Our goal is to prepare students and jobseekers for a rewarding career in the solar industry and to help make a positive impact on the environment."

The Solar PV Associate training bootcamp is open to anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in the solar industry. The program is completely funded by solar energy partners and supported by the public workforce development system in Somerset and Hunterdon counties.
