Civil Rights Activist to Speak at RVCC

The public is invited to attend “A Conversation with Larry Hamm,” Thursday, October 20, 4-6:30 p.m., at Raritan Valley Community College. The event, which is free of charge, will be held in the Atrium Lounge (lower level, College Center) at the College’s Branchburg Campus.

The event is part of a Conversation Series at the College titled “How to Ensure that #BlackLivesMatter Really Matters: A Conversation on Race Relations, Racial Injustice and Inequality,” presented by the Social Action Collective.

Lawrence “Larry” Hamm is the chair and founder of the People’s Organization for Progress (POP). His presentation will focus on “Black Lives Matter: Building the Movement for Racial Justice and Equality.”

A Civil Rights activist, humanitarian and lecturer, Hamm has been a relentless advocate for African-American people and the cause of human rights for more than 30 years. He has been honored by countless educational and social justice organizations and is the recipient of the 2016 NEA Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Award and the 2013 NJEA Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Award.
The program is sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Office of Human Resources, and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
