Residents of Somerset and Hunterdon counties are invited to attend a Community Library Open House, Saturday, October 18, from noon-3 p.m., at the Evelyn S. Field Library at Raritan Valley Community College, Branchburg.

During the event, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the RVCC Library and its services, tour the library and meet its staff, and get a library card. Librarians and other staff members from Somerset and Hunterdon County libraries also will be present to speak about their facilities and register residents for library cards.

In addition, the Open House will feature a Virtual Reality demonstration of “The Journey Back: A VR Experience,” presented by the College’s Institute of Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Created by the Illinois Holocaust Museum in partnership with VR producers, East City Films, “The Journey Back” enables audiences to virtually “walk” with Holocaust survivors through childhood hometowns, concentration camps, and places of hiding as they share their stories of survival. The exhibition will be on display October 17-November 13.

The program also will include a preview of an exhibition at the College, “Americans Who Tell the Truth,” which features portraits and narratives highlighting citizens who courageously address issues of social, environmental, and economic fairness. It utilizes the power of art to highlight such topics as civil rights, human rights, and economic and environmental justice, using past and present figures in American history that have inspired, challenged, and warned the country and its citizens to do better. The collaborative exhibition, which is being presented by RVCC’s Paul Robeson Institute for Ethics, Leadership, & Social Justice; the Department of Institutional Engagement; the Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies; and the Evelyn S. Field Library, will be on display from October 16-December 12.

In addition, Open House participants will have the opportunity to engage in a vision board craft project and create a personal vision board to take home to display. All supplies and materials will be provided.

There is no charge to participate in the Open House and refreshments will be served. For additional information about the Community Library Open House or the Evelyn S. Field Library at Raritan Valley Community College, call 908-526-1200, ext. 8423 or visit https://library.raritanval.edu/.
