Early Credits Student Participates in Peace and Diplomacy Studies Program

Raritan Valley Community College Early Credits student Dina Black, a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholar, participated in the Peace and Diplomacy Studies Global Navigators program this summer with the Council on International Educational Exchange in Tallinn, Estonia.
As part of the experience, the Hillsborough resident, a homeschooled, high school junior, visited various government sectors and cultural institutions with scholars from her cohort, along with Estonian educators and American teachers.
Her trip included seeing Riigikogu, the Parliament of Estonia, as well as visiting the Superministry, a center housing many government ministries, such as those addressing climate issues and the social well-being of Estonian residents. Through her Peace and Diplomacy course she learned how Parliament works and how government decisions are made. She also was educated about Estonian history and learned some basic Estonian vocabulary.
Dina, who is active with RVCC’s Student Government Association, said the experience was especially impactful for her because of her interest in public policy, and the exposure to Estonian governance expanded her perspective and interest regarding global politics, health, and food systems.
