Planetarium’s March Programs Include Laser Rock Shows Featuring Female Artists, Children’s Music

The Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium in Branchburg will be rocking in March with laser shows featuring music by such artists as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Carly Rae Jepsen, as well as tunes for children, including “Baby Shark” and “I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon” from Sesame Street. The following laser shows will be featured:

Laser Pop Rock, Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21, 4 p.m.

Watch lasers “dance” across the dome while listening to songs to sing along with, including “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi, “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors, “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen, and “Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift.  (Recommended for ages 6-12)

Women that Rock laser concert, Saturdays, March 7 & 14, 8 p.m.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, enjoy a laser concert featuring all female artists. Singers Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Beyoncé, and Shakira are just of few of the women whose music is highlighted in this show. (Recommended for ages 8-adult)

Laser Taylor Swift, Saturdays, March 21 & 28, 8 p.m.  

“Swifties” and friends are invited to sing along to some of Taylor Swift’s hit songs, such as “All Too Well,” “Blank Space,” and “Anti-Hero.” (Recommended for ages 8-adult)

Rockin’ Rocket Ride, Saturday, March 28, 3 p.m.

Put on your space suit and blast-off into outer space to visit the Moon, Sun, and planets. A lively experience for young people, the show features selected music from “Journey Into Space” by Jane Murphy. (Recommended for ages 3-8)

Lasers for Littles, Saturday, March 28, 4 p.m.

Our youngest audience members are encouraged to sing along with songs by a variety of artists. Some of the tunes in this laser concert for children include “Kalien the Alien” by mr RAY, “I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon” from Sesame Street, “Fruit Salad” by the Wiggles, and “Baby Shark.” (Recommended for ages 3-8)

Other Planetarium shows open to the public in March include:

•    Earth, Moon, Sun & Coyote, a star show focusing on eclipses, moon phases, and the motion of the day and night skies, Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21, 3 p.m. (Recommended for ages 6-12); Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMPML_SbL1w

•    The Sky Above, a sensory-friendly program that’s specially designed for families with children on the Autism spectrum and other developmental disorders, Saturday, March 7, 5 p.m.

•    Astronomy Tonight, a tour of the night sky, Saturday, March 7, 7 p.m. (Recommended for ages 8-adult)

•    Sunset Meditation, a guided meditation experience in the Planetarium’s comfortable, reclined seats, Friday, March 13, 7 p.m. (Recommended for ages 10-adult)

•    Forward to the Moon, a journey beyond the Earth, toward a sustainable future in space, Saturdays, March 14, 21, 28, 7 p.m. (Recommended for ages 8-adult)

Planetarium tickets cost $11 for one show, $20 for two shows back-to-back on the same day. Reservations are recommended, but all ticket sales are done at the door on the day of the show. Planetarium laser shows include loud music, flashing lights, and rapidly moving graphics, all in a dark environment, and therefore may not be recommended for those who are sensitive to these conditions or have a medical condition that could be exacerbated by them.
