the last look back

Raritan Valley Community College’s (RVCC) Visual and Performing Arts Department will present a solo exhibition featuring work by RVCC faculty member Donna Stackhouse of Washington, NJ. The Last Look Back: 25 Years of Photo-Printmaking by Donna Stackhouse will be on display in the Art Gallery at the College’s Branchburg campus from October 1-19.

An artist’s talk will be held in the Art Gallery on Friday, October 5, from 5-6 p.m. A reception will follow from 6-7 p.m. Both are free of charge and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Stackhouse, who is retiring later this year, started teaching at RVCC in 1990 and became a full-time faculty member in 1995. The exhibition will feature digitally manipulated photographs that have been printed using a variety of printmaking techniques, including lithography and intaglio. Her art focuses on childhood memories and experiences that have shaped her understanding of being a woman and a feminist. Stackhouse combines old family photos with everyday contemporary scenes to illustrate how we carry the past into the present, and how the distance of the past is ever-present in our psyche.

Stackhouse is offering all of the show’s work for silent auction that will be held during the length of the exhibit. Proceeds will be split between the RVCC Foundation’s General Scholarship Fund and the RVCC Art Gallery to help support the Visual Art program through the funding of future art exhibitions and guest speakers. Bids will be accepted throughout the length of the exhibition and winning bidders will be contacted at the exhibit’s culmination.

Gallery hours are Mondays, 3-8 p.m.; Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Wednesdays, 3-8 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Fridays, 1-4 p.m. For further information, contact the Visual and Performing Arts Department, 908-218-8876.

Raritan Valley Community College’s main campus is located at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg, NJ. For further information, visit www.raritanval.edu.
