RVCC Student Interns, Professor Join Efforts to Protect Wildlife on Beachfront Areas

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Natural Lands Management teamed up with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, along with RVCC student interns—led by Professor Jay Kelly—to install symbolic beach fencing in key beachfront areas for the purpose of protectinThe New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Natural Lands Management teamed up with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, along with student interns from Raritan Valley Community College—led by Professor Jay Kelly—to install symbolic beach fencing in key beachfront areas for the purpose of protecting natural dune development and habitat for rare and threatened species, such as Seabeach Amaranth (Amaranthus pumilus) and Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus).

Fencing was installed at Island Beach State Park in May, along with Brigantine Natural Area, Corson’s Inlet State Park, Cape May Point State Park, and Bradley Beach Borough.
