Adults looking to return to school to continue their education or train for a new career may take advantage of scholarships at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in Branchburg. The RVCC Foundation has several scholarships that are specifically geared toward non-traditional, older students.

Scholarships are for varying amounts and are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some may have specific due dates. The following scholarships are geared toward adult students:

Sophie Sadowsky Chmil Memorial Scholarship
The recipient of this scholarship must be a female student, 45 years old and above, who is seeking to acquire new skills and increase her ability to enter the workforce for the first time or to find employment in a second career and succeed in today’s competitive economic market. The recipient should be pursuing a degree or certificate in accounting, business administration, financial services, CPA preparation, paralegal studies, or international business.

Patricia Critelli Scholarship Fund
The recipient must be pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paralegal Studies or a Paralegal Studies Certificate. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and/or academic merit; be dedicated to a career in law; and show a commitment to the values of the law both at RVCC and in the community. Preference is given to residents of Hunterdon or Somerset County or someone who has worked in the legal profession in Hunterdon County for at least two years. Established in 2013 by Hunterdon County attorney David Bunevich, the scholarship is named in honor of Patricia Critelli, who worked with Bunevich as a paralegal professional for more than 30 years. Patricia Critelli passed away in February 2016.

The Gene Haas Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship is dedicated solely to RVCC students enrolled in the College’s Advanced Manufacturing Certificate Program who are taking courses to prepare them for jobs as machine operators, manual machinists, or CNC production technicians.

Second Career Scholarship
The Second Career Scholarship offers a second chance to individuals seeking to acquire new skills and increase their ability to find employment in a second career and succeed in today’s competitive economic market. Applicants for the Second Career Scholarship must be residents of Somerset County and need to demonstrate financial need. The scholarships are available for the following RVCC certificate programs: Advanced Manufacturing, Dental Radiology, EKG Technician National, Pharmacy Technician, and Phlebotomy/Lab Assistant.

Phoebe and John Falcone Scholarship
Designed to offer a second chance to women seeking to earn an associate degree or certificate, this scholarship is awarded to female students enrolled at Raritan Valley Community College who have attended Hunterdon Central High School. Applicants must have graduated from Hunterdon Central or have earned their high school equivalency diploma but never pursued a college education because of personal or financial reasons. The gap between high school graduation and enrollment at RVCC should be a minimum of three years.  

The College also partners with other organizations that provide scholarship support for non-traditional students at RVCC.

Jessamine S. Henderson Memorial Adult Education Scholarship
Established in 1986 in honor of Jessamine Henderson and her work in higher education, this scholarship is awarded to a student who is 21 or older and a resident of Somerset or Hunterdon County. Applicants must demonstrate the need for financial aid and show that they are serious about pursuing a career-related program of study.  All applications must be received or postmarked no later than April 21. The RVCC Foundation raises funds above and beyond public and tuition sources to support the College as a center of intellectual thought, cultural vibrancy, personal enrichment and an engine for economic growth.
