Somerset County Names Terence L. Byrd to RVCC Board of Trustees

Raritan Valley Community College’s (RVCC) Board of Trustees welcomed new member Terence L. Byrd of Warren at its meeting held on January 20. Mr. Byrd was appointed to the position by the Somerset County Board of County Commissioners.

Terence L. Byrd is an accomplished senior healthcare executive and strategic leader with more than 35 years of experience in health insurance, managed care, and healthcare management sectors. He brings valuable and unique expertise in executive leadership, organizational strategy, healthcare operations, and community focused outcomes to his role on the Board of Trustees at Raritan Valley Community College.

Before being appointed to the RVCC Board of Trustees, Mr. Byrd held senior executive roles with national and regional healthcare organizations, including serving as the President and Founder of Mercy Health Plan (aka Horizon NJ Health), President of Healthfirst NJ, and Chief Executive Officer of Aetna Better Health of Kentucky. His career is distinguished by building successful startup Medicaid/Medicare managed care health plans, leading organizational growth in turnaround government sector health plans through operational transformation and having a strong commitment to addressing health disparities through community-focused solutions.

A recognized leader in governance, strategy, and workforce development, Mr. Byrd brings valuable insight into aligning education, healthcare, and labor-market needs. His appointment to the Raritan Valley Community College Board of Trustees reflects his dedication to expanding access to education, strengthening institutional excellence, and advancing student success.

Mr. Byrd holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Lafayette College, where he participated in D1 athletics as a starter (Football). He completed graduate-level coursework in Monmouth University’s MBA program.

He holds a life and health insurance producer’s license in multiple states and promotes financial literacy through whole life insurance education and sales.
