Ophthalmic Science Student Places Third at National College Bowl

Raritan Valley Community College Ophthalmic Science student Hunter Nicholaysen of Belvidere came in third place at the nationwide College Bowl contest at Vision Expo, held March 13-16 in Orlando, FL. Vision Expo is an annual event for ophthalmic professionals focusing on eyewear, education, and fashion.

Nicholaysen is scheduled to graduate from RVCC in May with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Ophthalmic Science. She also works in the optical industry as an apprentice optician and is following her mother's path to become a licensed optician.

The United Opticians Association College Bowl, which is sponsored by EssilorLuxottica, is an annual competition among representatives of opticianry programs from across the country. It is a quiz-show type competition that features questions in anatomy and physiology of the eye, dispensing, fabrication, contact lenses, and optics.

RVCC offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Ophthalmic Science and an Ophthalmic Science Certificate – Apprenticeship Option program.
