Multicultural Affairs

RVCC seeks to increase access and equity for historically underrepresented groups, to cultivate diversity awareness and appreciation, and to improve campus climate by fostering an inclusive and civil community. Throughout the academic year the office supports programs, event and training that promote diversity and understanding.

Diversity Programs
Some 5000 students, faculty, staff and community members participate in diversity programs offered each year. The cultural and education programs include:

Paul Robeson Institute for Leadership

Paul Robeson Institute for Leadership, Ethics and Social Justice and its 26-year-old Paul Robeson Youth Achievement Award program celebrate African American middle and high school scholars.

Malcolm Bernard Historically Black Colleges

Malcolm Bernard Historically Black Colleges and Universities College and Transfer Fair serves 1,300 NJ high school students. RVCC has served as a host site for the event that features representatives from over 40 Historically Black Colleges and Universities as well as motivational presentations.

Heritage Series

Heritage Series presents a wide array of cultural and educational programs each year that promote diversity, inclusion and equity.

CRECER

CRECER program helps to prepare Latino high school students for transition to college and career readiness exploration. The Orgullo Latino Club sponsors the program that includes RVCC students sharing their college success stories and presentations by local community leaders and educators.

Martin Luther King Drum Major of Justice Service Awards

Martin Luther King Drum Major of Justice Service Awards honors local community partners who provide service learning opportunities to RVCC students. The organizations serve disadvantaged and underserved populations. The annual is held in partnerships with the MLK 365/Greater Philadelphia MLK Day of Service.

From Boys to Men Conference

From Boys to Men Conference, a partnership with the New Brunswick (NJ) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the inspirational program focuses on empowering Black and Latino high school students to become lifelong learners and engaged members of their community. Since 2009, over 2000 young high school men have attended the program that provides tools for the participants to establish college and career goals and make sustainable contributions to their families, communities and schools.

Kente Ceremony

Kente Ceremony brings together RVCC graduates to celebrate the College’s rich cultural tradition of community using the Kente cloth as a symbol. The program honors family members and supporters who helped the graduates achieve success.

Sister to Sister and Brothers Helping Brothers Network

Sister to Sister and Brothers Helping Brothers Network provides a supportive environment to improve academic success, student satisfaction, retention and graduation rates for students of color through a wide range of services.
