Programs for Kids, Teens to be Offered this Spring

Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) is offering a variety of programs for children and teens this spring, focusing on such areas as web page design and programming, robotics, writing, public speaking and sewing. The following programs will be offered at the College’s Branchburg campus:

Web Page Design: Students ages 8-10 learn the many facets related to basic computer applications and web design. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14-May 12, from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The fee is $79.

Design Your Own PC: Students ages 10-12 learn about hardware components and what is needed to build their own PC from scratch. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14-May 5, from 12:30-2 p.m. The fee is $79.

Scratch 2.0 Programming: Students ages 8-10 create multimedia programs as they learn the fundamental concepts of programming. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14-May 5, from 9-10:30 a.m. The fee is $79.

Fun with Photoshop 2: Students ages 11-15 are taught the intermediate skills of Adobe Photoshop. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14-May 5, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The fee is $105.

Advanced Robotics: Students ages 8-14 program a robot to perform daily tasks using visual and text-based programming. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14 and April 21, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The fee is $160.

Writing Skills: Students ages 12-14 develop good writing and critical thinking skills. Good mechanics and effective word usage, as well as sentence and paragraph structure, are emphasized. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14-May 12, from 9-10:30 a.m. No class will be held on April 28.  The fee is $80.

Basic Cursive Writing: Students ages 11-14 are taught upper- and lower-cased letter writing. Journal writing is also included. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14-May 12, from 9-10:30 a.m. No class will be held on April 28.  The fee is $80.

Speak Out! Public Speaking for Kids: Students ages 9-12 learn easy techniques for handling anxiety that may be experienced during public speaking. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14-April 28, from 10-11:30 a.m. The fee is $60.

Creative Writing Series: Students ages 9-12 engage in fun writing exercises as they learn about story structure, setting and characters, descriptive language and more. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14-April 28, from 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The fee is $60.

Intermediate Sewing: Students ages 8-12 who already have some experience using a sewing machine are taught intermediate-level skills. The class will be held Saturdays, April 14-May 5, from 9 a.m.-noon. The fee is $175.
